The 17th edition of Assam Mahotsav will be held from January 16 to 29 at the Jorhat District Sports Association field, Jorhat. The annual event aims to provide a platform to ethnic groups to showcase their culture, food and traditions.
This time Chutia, Sonowal Kachari, tea tribes and the Tai Khamyangs with their unique Buddhist traditions will be putting up stalls to showcase their exquisite culture, customs and traditional cuisines. A performance on Raati Bihu, a tradition which seems to be less observed in recent times, besides a workshop on how to craft jewellery and other items from bamboo and coconut husk will also be included among other attractions at the Mahotsav.
There will be competitions in cooking, ethnic wear, drawing and modern songs, among others.
